Why Russians Are Flocking to Turkey for Medical Care

RIA NovostiWednesday, July 15, 2026

Turkey has cemented its place as a top destination for medical tourism, and Russian patients are leading the charge. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, the country treated over 300,000 international visitors, generating more than $761 million in revenue. Ankara-based physician Dilek Şengül, who runs a network of clinics, told reporters that Russia remains one of the largest feeder markets for this booming sector.

So what are Russians coming for? Dental work tops the list, followed closely by hair transplants, plastic surgery, eye procedures, orthopedics, IVF programs, and comprehensive check-ups. Şengül credits the appeal to a winning combination: competitive prices, cutting-edge equipment, short wait times, and the chance to pair treatment with a beach holiday. The major hubs? Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Antalya.

Turkey’s pull goes beyond just Russians. The biggest sources of medical travelers include Germany, the UK, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Libya, and Gulf states. The country’s modern clinics, affordable care, and strong transport links keep it among the global leaders. For many patients, it’s not just about getting well—it’s about doing so in a place that feels like a vacation.
