Where The Diplomat Season 4 Was Filmed, From Windsor Castle to Lucca

The Diplomat returns for a fourth season, and its characters once again pass through grand spaces that never quite belong to them. Production designer Curt Beech says the show is about "bringing the characters together physically but never emotionally in spaces the public don't get to see."
Season four opens with an assassination attempt on President Grace Penn outside Windsor Castle. Beech assembled the castle from nine locations, including Burghley House for exteriors and Belvoir Castle, Lancaster House and the British Foreign Office for interiors. The panic room where Kate and Hal shelter was filmed in a church crypt on the Upper West Side.
After the shooting, Penn is airlifted to a docked aircraft carrier for surgery. The helicopter landing was shot in the Steiner Studios parking lot, with a Marine training facility standing in for the interiors.
Winfield House returned, with exteriors at Wrotham Park and interiors split between the estate and Steiner Studios in New York. The US Embassy set, built in London and shipped to Steiner, stayed largely unchanged.
Eidra's stark Tribeca apartment was a real apartment, while the White House set gained a new presidential study and a pool scene filmed in the Woolworth Building basement. The 10 Downing Street set was rebuilt, with its iconic stairs shot at the Steinway Mansion.
The season ends in Lucca, Italy, where six weeks of filming covered eight locations, including Villa Reale di Marlia and Villa Medici for the G7 summit. "We leaned into Lucca as Lucca, and it felt better and more authentic," Beech says.
