Wait to Enter Kaliningrad from Poland Falls to Nine Hours as Border Crowds Ease
RIA NovostiTuesday, August 4, 2026

Waiting times for vehicles entering Russia's Kaliningrad region from Poland fell to eight to nine hours by Tuesday evening, according to the regional customs service. The queue had been 17–18 hours on Monday and 16–17 hours on Tuesday morning, before easing as the number of cars at the border dropped. Officials said the peak had passed.
The earlier delays followed stricter checks by Polish border guards, who were selectively sending travellers with large amounts of luggage to a deep-inspection bay, adding several hours. The border rush was linked to Russian-speaking Germans heading to Russia to visit relatives, with summer holidays starting in some German states.
