United Flight Diverts to Pittsburgh, Evacuates Over Security Concern

A United Airlines flight from Chicago to New York made an unscheduled landing at Pittsburgh International Airport on Saturday morning. The diversion followed a report from the crew of a potential security issue aboard the aircraft, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Flight 2092, headed for New York's LaGuardia Airport, was redirected to Pittsburgh. Upon landing, passengers evacuated using the plane's emergency slides. Video from the scene showed the Airbus A320 on the tarmac with its slides deployed.

The response was immediate and substantial. FBI agents and bomb technicians arrived at the airport, joined by the Allegheny County Police Bomb Squad and explosives-detection dogs. After a thorough sweep of the aircraft, passengers, and luggage, authorities reported finding nothing dangerous.

"Our EOD team and K9s conducted a sweep... with negative results," a county police statement confirmed. Bob Kerlik, a spokesperson for the airport authority, said law enforcement had cleared the scene and the airport remained open.

United rebooked the affected passengers onto another flight to continue their journeys. Officials have not disclosed what prompted the initial security alert or indicated whether any individuals were detained in connection with the report.
