Turkish Resort Property Sales to Foreigners Hit Nine-Year Low

Property sales to foreign nationals in Turkey have fallen to their lowest level in nine years, according to data from 2025 and analysis shared with RIA Novosti. The figures mark a significant downturn for a market that saw explosive growth earlier this decade.

Last year, foreigners purchased approximately 21,500 homes in the country, a drop of 9.4% from 2024. The last time sales were this sluggish was in 2016, with about 18,100 units sold. The current decline follows a peak in 2022, when foreign buyers completed a record 67,500 transactions. Since that high, the numbers have steadily contracted.

Industry experts point to soaring property prices across Turkey as the primary cause for the cooling interest. While Russian citizens remained the top foreign buyers for the fourth consecutive year, their purchases fell sharply by 25% in 2025 compared to the previous year.

The trend suggests a shifting global market. Recent reports indicate that Russian buyers, once a dominant force in Turkish and Dubai markets, are now showing greater interest in Thai property, surpassing demand in those former hotspots. For Turkey's popular coastal resorts, the data signals a challenging new phase after years of a booming foreign investment cycle.
