Turkey Reassures Tourists: Coxsackie Virus Under Control at Resorts

Turkish health authorities have moved quickly to reassure travelers after reports of Coxsackie virus infections surfaced at some of the country's popular beach destinations. Russia's consumer protection agency, Rospotrebnadzor, had sent inquiries to the Turkish Ministry of Health and the tourism group ATÖR about the spread among Russian tourists. The ministry responded by saying the situation is under close watch and there is no cause for alarm.

"Coxsackie cases are under constant monitoring, and our ministry carries out continuous checks to protect public health," the spokesperson said. "We maintain full transparency in sharing information with international organizations." The ministry called on travelers to rely only on its official statements for accurate guidance.

The Coxsackie virus belongs to the enterovirus family and is common in warm weather destinations. It spreads through contaminated water, food, and direct contact with an infected person. Typical symptoms include fever, skin rash, and painful sores in the mouth or on the hands and feet. Children under five are most often affected, but the illness usually passes within a week without special treatment. Turkish authorities advise basic hygiene: frequent hand washing, drinking bottled water, and avoiding shared utensils. While the reports have raised concern among some travelers, officials emphasize that the situation is well within normal seasonal patterns. Resorts continue to operate normally, and no travel restrictions are in place.
