Travel Health Alert: Russian Agency Issues Pre-Trip Safety Checklist for International Travelers

Moscow, July 21 – Traveling abroad this summer? Russia’s consumer health watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, has released a straightforward guide to help tourists sidestep illness while overseas. The agency stresses that a healthy vacation starts long before you board the plane, urging travelers to assess epidemic risks at their destination and double-check their medical insurance coverage.

Once you arrive, the advice turns practical: stick to quality food and bottled water, and skip the ice cubes if you’re unsure about the water source. Meat, fish, and seafood should be thoroughly cooked, and fruits and vegetables need a good scrub with clean water. The agency also warns against sampling unfamiliar street food or accepting homemade treats from locals. Instead, buy factory-sealed products from reputable stores. Personal hygiene remains a top priority throughout the trip.

Insect bites pose another hidden danger. Rospotrebnadzor recommends using repellents and seeking medical help immediately if you notice tick bites, mosquito bites, rashes, or any skin changes. To be extra cautious, travelers should get all recommended vaccinations—including for measles—well ahead of departure. A little planning now can keep your journey memorable for all the right reasons.
