Travel Blogger Warns Tourists About Fines and Deportation Risks on Bali

Russian travel blogger Alexey Kutovoy, who visited Bali, has shared what can get tourists fined or even deported from the country, writing in his personal blog "long live the path!" on the Zen platform.

According to the author, "the island of the gods forgives tourists a lot, but not everything." He cautioned travelers against several actions - for instance, arriving on the day of the Balinese New Year, when tourists may face strict restrictions. "Once a year Bali comes to a complete stop for a day. This is Nyepi, the Balinese New Year and Day of Silence. From six in the morning the airport closes for 24 hours, and tourists are not allowed to leave their hotels, turn on bright lights or make noise. Local guards enforce order," the traveler noted.

Tourists also cannot enter local temples in shorts, even long ones. Men and women are required to wear a sarong, a long skirt. Women are strictly forbidden from visiting shrines during their menstrual periods. And some photos taken on Bali can get a person expelled from the country altogether. "In 2023, several foreigners, including Russians, were deported over explicit photographs at a sacred tree and on the summit of Mount Agung," the tourist explained.

Visitors should also not pet stray dogs, as they can transmit rabies. "Bali loves guests who respect its rules. Just watch your step, don't argue with the monkeys and check the calendar before buying tickets, so the island is remembered only for good things," the blogger concluded.

Kutovoy previously named the main mistakes tourists make on their first day in Thailand, advising against changing all their money upon arrival at the airport.
