Travel Blogger's Journey: Why Russia Won't Mirror Europe

After two years of travel across 17 nations, Russian blogger Elena shared a candid reflection: "We won't be like in Europe." She detailed her observations on her personal travel blog, 'Like Travel,' sparking conversation about fundamental differences in lifestyle and structure.
Elena first pointed to geography. Russia's vast expanse, she noted, creates a distinct way of life. European nations are more compact, with consistent climates and infrastructure spread more evenly across regions.
Daily life in Europe, she found, operates under stricter regulation. Rules govern recycling, parking, and public spaces, sometimes even extending to the appearance of homes. Life also adheres to a stricter timetable, with early shop closures and Sunday shutdowns, and social plans made far in advance.
The blogger also contrasted economic environments. She described European markets as mature, with most niches filled and intense competition. "Starting a business is harder due to paperwork, taxes, and established players who've built their reputations over decades," Elena explained.
Finally, she highlighted a cultural divergence in housing. While homeownership is a common goal in Russia, renting is a standard long-term solution for many Europeans. "This speaks to both opportunities and a different mindset, a mentality that likely won't change," she concluded.
In a previous post, Elena described European life with the phrase 'in Russia, it's no worse, and sometimes better,' admitting she found little ostentatious luxury abroad.
