Tragedy on Munku-Sardyk: Three Krasnoyarsk Tourists Perish in Descent

Three tourists from Krasnoyarsk have died from hypothermia while descending from Mount Munku-Sardyk in Buryatia, according to the regional Investigative Committee. A pre-investigation check is now underway.
The group of fifteen had arrived in the settlement of Mondy in the Okinsky District with the goal of climbing the peak. They were scheduled to return by midday on April 22nd. The tragedy unfolded the night before.
On the evening of April 21st, several members of the party reached a road at the mountain's base. At a roadside cafe, they left a note reporting that three of their companions had died during the descent. The tourists then returned to the scene higher on the mountain.
The cafe owner discovered the message the following morning and alerted law enforcement. A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the group's location.
An investigator from the Committee has also traveled to the expedition's base camp to verify the report and establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Munku-Sardyk, at 3,492 meters, is the highest peak in Buryatia, situated on the border with Mongolia. In elevation, it is surpassed in Russia only by Mount Elbrus and Mount Belukha.
