Tourism Union: No Evidence of Mass Food Poisoning at Abkhazia Hotel

RIA NovostiTuesday, October 27, 2026

Russian tour operators have no information pointing to a mass food poisoning incident at a hotel in Abkhazia, the Russian Union of Tourism Industry (RST) told RIA Novosti.

According to the union, cases of rotavirus infection among tourists in Abkhazia did occur, but there is no data on mass food poisoning at the Iзумруд hotel.

The Telegram channel Mash had reported that around thirty Russian tourists fell ill at a hotel in Abkhazia, all showing the same intestinal infection symptoms.

The RST said there is currently no reason to link the illness to food or water at the hotel, since the exact cause can only be established after an inspection and laboratory tests.
