Tick Season Alert: Russians Warned of Peak Activity Period

As Russians head outdoors to enjoy the warmer weather, they're being warned about the peak activity period for ticks. According to insurance company Soglasie, this typically occurs from April to June, but caution is still necessary until September. Lyudmila Strakhova, deputy director of the personal insurance claims settlement department, notes that while the peak season is in the spring, it's essential to remain vigilant throughout the summer. Ticks are commonly found in forests with dense grass, overgrown roadside areas, ravines, and ditches. Areas with lush vegetation, such as cemeteries, summer cottages near forests, and garden plots, are also high-risk zones. People who work or spend time outdoors, including gardeners, foresters, hunters, tourists, and outdoor workers, are particularly susceptible to tick bites. To minimize the risk, it's recommended to mow grass regularly, keep territories clean, and treat areas with insecto-acaricidal preparations. A recent incident in Orenburg region highlights the importance of being aware of tick activity, after a resident had a tick removed from her eye at a hospital. By taking precautions, Russians can enjoy the outdoors while reducing their risk of tick encounters.
