Three Asian Beach Havens Where a Modest Budget Buys a Month by the Sea

For those dreaming of a long-term coastal escape without a fortune, a seasoned Russian traveler has mapped out a realistic path. Alexey Kutovoy, who spent a winter across Southeast Asia, recently outlined three countries where a budget of approximately 100,000 Russian rubles per month can secure a comfortable life near the water.

In his personal blog on the Dzen platform, Kutovoy placed Vietnam at the top of his list. He estimates a monthly budget of around $900, which covers a studio apartment a short walk from the beach for $300-$400, meals at local cafes for $5-$10, and scooter rental for about $50-$70. "The money is enough for everything. You can even sign up for a gym," he noted.

He found Cambodia to be even more affordable. In coastal towns like Sihanoukville or Kampot, a decent apartment rents for $300-$600 monthly. "On 100,000 rubles, you can live very well: rent a place with a pool, eat in restaurants, travel around the country," Kutovoy stated.

Indonesia's Bali, often perceived as pricey, rounded out his trio. He pointed to less-hyped areas such as Amed, Lovina, and Sanur, where monthly housing runs $400-$700. Local meals cost $3-$5, with scooter rental around $70-$80. Beyond costs, Kutovoy praised the island's intangible appeal: "Rice terraces, volcanoes, the ocean, surfing, yoga, tons of interesting people from all over the world. The atmosphere is special—as if everyone came there to live, not just vacation."

Previously, the same blogger highlighted five warm destinations where Russian tourists receive a notably warm welcome, ranking China first on that particular list.
