The Tote That Travels: A Cuyana System Bag, 18 Months Later

A great work bag is a daily companion, as essential as a good pair of shoes. When I started using Cuyana’s System Tote in early 2025, I needed something that could transition from the office to a flight without a second thought. This bag has done exactly that.

Crafted from soft Italian leather, the 13-inch tote manages to look polished whether it’s holding my laptop or souvenirs from a Maine vacation. Its simple design works with everything. What truly sets it apart are the organizational inserts. I use the snap-in laptop sleeve and zipper pouch daily; they keep chaos at bay and stay firmly in place. The bag itself is structured enough to hold its form but can be folded for storage.

After a year and a half of near-constant use, its durability impresses me. The leather has softened gracefully, showing minimal scuffs. The interior cleans easily with a damp cloth. I’ve carried it heavily, and while there’s slight splitting on one handle stitch (a testament to my overpacking), it’s cosmetic and hasn’t worsened. An initial strong leather smell faded completely after a few months.

For travel, it’s reliable. The interior pocket holds a passport securely, and the top snaps shut for peace of mind. Cuyana offers a zippered version for those who prefer more security, along with a 16-inch size and a mini style. For me, this original tote remains a versatile staple. It looks better with age, proving some investments are worth making.
