Thailand Reassures Tourists: ‘You Are Safe Here’ After Russia Travel Warning

Thailand’s Foreign Ministry has issued a firm statement declaring the country a safe destination for all international visitors, including Russians, following a travel advisory from Moscow. The Russian Foreign Ministry warned its citizens on Friday to exercise caution in Thailand due to the risk of arrest at the request of the United States. In a response released Thursday, Bangkok pushed back, insisting the kingdom remains welcoming and secure for travelers of every nationality. “Thailand is a hospitable and safe place for tourists of all nationalities,” said Panidorn Patchimsawat, acting director-general of the ministry’s information department and its official spokesman. The statement highlighted the deep ties between the two nations, noting that 2027 will mark 130 years of diplomatic relations. It also pointed to the steady flow of Russian visitors: nearly 1.9 million traveled to Thailand in 2025, the highest number from any European country. “Thailand has always warmly welcomed guests from around the world, including Russians,” the ministry emphasized. At the same time, the statement reminded all tourists and foreign residents to respect local laws. The ministry stressed that any legal cases are handled strictly under Thai law and legal procedures, without discrimination. The message was clear: Thailand’s doors are open, but everyone must play by the rules.
