Thai Police Arrest Russian Man in Bangkok, Alleging Human Trafficking Ring

Thai authorities have arrested a Russian national in Bangkok, accusing him of luring individuals from former Soviet states into forced labor in scam operations based in Myanmar. The arrest, reported by the Telegram channel Shot, marks another development in ongoing regional efforts to dismantle these criminal networks.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Sergei, was living in Bangkok with a Thai girlfriend who worked at an upscale massage parlor and allegedly assisted him. According to reports, Sergei deceived compatriots and other CIS citizens with promises of work, funneling them first to fraudulent call centers in Thailand before they were forcibly transported across the border into Myanmar.

Police allege the couple earned approximately three million rubles over six months. During a search of their apartment, officers seized counterfeit bank cards, SIM cards, three smartphones, and a laptop. Sergei had reportedly attempted to evade capture by wearing a disguise of a false beard and sunglasses for several months, and he withdrew money exclusively from ATMs in tourist areas.

This arrest follows the recent detention of another alleged recruiter at Bangkok's main airport. In that case, a Tajik-born Russian resident was taken into custody on suspicion of recruiting women from Russia and China through social media for similar scam centers.
