Thai Getaway on a Budget: Russian Tourist Weighs Value at Phuket Resort

A Russian tourist has shared a detailed review of a holiday on Thailand's Phuket island, offering a clear-eyed assessment of value for money. The traveler, who visited with her husband, detailed the experience for the publication 'Tonkosti Turizma' on the Yandex Zen platform.
The couple's package, totaling approximately 260,000 rubles, included a 189,000-ruble tour and around 70,000 in extra spending. They stayed at the Karona Resort & Spa in the Kata Beach area. While generally satisfied, the tourist noted that the hotel's shortcomings became apparent upon closer inspection.
She described their deluxe room as comfortable but dated, with a creaky wardrobe and worn bathroom tiles in places. A persistently noisy air conditioner disrupted sleep on several nights. The breakfast buffet, though tasty, lacked variety and grew repetitive over a five-day stay. The resort's compact grounds do not include a private beach, and sunbed rentals on the public beach came at an additional cost.
Positives highlighted included the hotel's convenient location, a well-maintained pool, a quality spa, and consistently friendly staff. "It's not a five-star palace," she concluded, "but a solid four-star option—perhaps leaning toward three. We weren't expecting luxury, and the positives were enough for a comfortable stay."
Her review arrives as Phuket sees increased visitor numbers and rising prices. Another Russian travel blogger recently characterized the island as 'expensive and crowded,' noting that tourist expectations often clash with the current reality.
