Texas Tango: Rogue Giraffe Gracie Found Safe After Two-Week Ordeal

A dramatic two-week search for a giraffe on the loose in rural Texas has come to a happy end. Gracie, a reticulated giraffe from the Cedar Hollow Ranch in Leakey, was found safe and sound on Friday, just a few miles from her home. The search effort, which included aerial searches and a $5,000 reward, had captivated the internet and drawn widespread attention. Gracie's great escape began on June 12, when she wandered out of her enclosure at the ranch, leaving her owners and local authorities scrambling to track her down. Despite a false alarm earlier in the week, which sparked confusion and misinformation, the Real County Sheriff's office remained committed to finding Gracie. On Friday morning, Sheriff Nathan Johnson announced that Gracie had been spotted about four miles south of the ranch, thanks to the efforts of Cedar Hollow Ranch manager Vick Jones and Concho Aviation's Jeff Hill. Johnson reported that Gracie was 'fat and happy' and seemed to be enjoying her freedom, with a 'catch me if you can' attitude. A team is now working to safely capture Gracie and return her to the ranch. The successful conclusion to the search is a relief to all involved, and Gracie's adventures will surely go down in local legend.
