Texas Gets Its Own Universal Park—Built for the Little Ones

Universal is bringing its signature movie magic to Texas, but this time it’s scaled down for the toddler and elementary school set. The new Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, about 30 miles north of Dallas, will throw its gates open on July 1. The company announced that tickets and packages—including stays at the 300-room on-site hotel—are on sale now. The 20-acre park is a test run for a concept designed specifically for families with young children. Universal Destinations & Experiences says it wants to “invite a new generation to experience kid-sized thrills.” The park is divided into seven themed lands. Kids can explore Shrek’s Swamp, dive into Bikini Bottom with SpongeBob, or take on the Minions at Bello Bay Club. There’s also a Jurassic World Adventure Camp, TrollsFest, a Puss in Boots area, and the Isle of Curiosity featuring Gabby’s Dollhouse. The Frisco resort is the latest expansion for Universal, which opened its massive Epic Universe in Orlando just over a year ago. The company is also pushing ahead with plans for its first U.K. park, the Universal United Kingdom Resort, about 45 minutes north of London in Bedford.
