Tambourine Launches Fee-Free Booking Platform to Challenge Online Travel Giants

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Tambourine, a major player in hotel marketing tech, introduced a new platform on January 22 that could significantly alter how hotels manage their online business. The product, called Tambourine One, combines a hotel’s website design with a booking engine that charges no transaction fees on room reservations.

The launch arrives as hotel operators, facing online travel agency (OTA) commissions that often reach 20%, are aggressively pushing to increase direct bookings. Tambourine One aims to make that effort more profitable by eliminating the typical 1-3% fee charged by most booking engines. Existing Tambourine clients will receive a free upgrade.

“We’re removing friction at every turn, helping more travelers book in fewer steps,” said Mekell Barker, Tambourine’s SVP of Account Service for Hotels.

The platform bundles several features hotels typically pay for separately, including tools for room-and-air packages, mobile wallet payments, video integration, and travel insurance upsells. It also includes built-in protections against costly website accessibility lawsuits. For hotels, this consolidation can reduce a monthly technology bill that frequently exceeds $5,000.

The system’s foundation comes from Tambourine’s 2024 acquisition of ReservHotel, a reservation platform popular in the Caribbean and Latin America. Innovations from that merger have been integrated into the new, unified interface.

For a medium-sized property, the savings can be substantial. Tambourine estimates one hotel with 10,000 annual bookings would save $24,000 a year by avoiding standard transaction fees alone, with additional savings from eliminated add-ons.

Now in 2026, with the hotel industry forecasting modest revenue growth, tools that cut costs and boost direct bookings are a priority. Tambourine pairs the platform with its media-buying and customer relationship management services, arguing that a unified strategy is essential for independent hotels competing against large chains.

As CEO Rafael Cardozo told Hotel Management Network last year, the goal is to “reimagine the entire hotel path to purchase.” With Tambourine One, the company is betting that removing fees and simplifying technology is a compelling way to start.
