Summer Travel Scam Alert: Fake Flight Cancellations Target Russian Tourists

As the summer holiday season approaches, scammers are preying on Russian travelers with a new scheme involving fake flight cancellations. According to a warning from the People's Front's "Moshelovka" platform, fraudsters are calling tourists and claiming their flights have been canceled due to a rotavirus outbreak at their hotel or political unrest in popular destinations like Turkey or Egypt. The scammers then offer to refund the trip and sell a "priority connecting flight" for 50 to 100 percent of the original tour cost. The scheme is particularly active in May, when bookings for international summer vacations peak. The target audience is anyone planning a trip abroad in the coming months. To avoid falling victim, experts advise travelers to verify flight and hotel status only through the airline's official app or website. If someone calls claiming you need to evacuate, hang up immediately and contact your tour operator directly using the number you have on file. A little skepticism can save you both money and stress this holiday season.
