Summer Travel Plans: Nearly Two-Thirds of Russians Ready to Hit the Road

A new survey finds that summer vacations are firmly on the agenda for the majority of working Russians, with domestic trips leading the way. According to research by SuperJob for RIA Novosti, 62% of employed citizens have scheduled time off for the warmer months. Of that group, 25% are planning to explore destinations within Russia, while 7% intend to travel abroad. The remainder will stay closer to home: 19% plan to relax at home, and 11% will head to their dachas or the countryside. Interestingly, 3% of all vacationers said they would take out a loan to fund their holiday.

Gender differences are notable. Women are more likely than men to choose domestic travel (28% versus 22%). At the same time, men are more inclined to skip a summer break entirely, with 42% forgoing vacation compared to 34% of women.

Age also plays a role. Russians under 24 are the most likely to miss out on summer leave, with 45% staying put. Those over 35 tend to favor dacha stays and trips around the country, while foreign travel is more popular among the under-35 crowd. Education level matters, too: workers with a secondary vocational degree are more likely to forgo vacation (44%) than those with a higher education degree (33%). University graduates also show a stronger preference for Russian travel (28% versus 21%).

Income influences plans as well. Among those earning between 100,000 and 150,000 rubles a month, 67% are taking summer leave, and 10% of them are heading abroad—a higher rate than both lower and higher earners.
