Summer Fun Comes with Hidden Dangers, Experts Warn

As the mercury rises, so do the risks associated with popular summer activities. According to Dr. Nadezhda Chernyshova, a therapist, some of the most seemingly harmless summer entertainments can have serious consequences for our health. Topping the list of hazardous activities is swimming in unauthorized areas, particularly diving headfirst into unfamiliar waters. If the water is shallower than expected, the impact can lead to severe injuries, including fractures of the cervical vertebrae and even complete paralysis. Moreover, swimming in stagnant water can expose individuals to infections such as cercariasis, also known as 'swimmer's itch,' which is caused by the penetration of worm larvae into the skin, resulting in intense itching. Other waterborne pathogens like lamblia and amoebas can also be present in these waters. Sunbathing is another high-risk activity, as severe sunburns can increase the risk of developing melanoma in the long term. Furthermore, engaging in strenuous physical activities in the heat can lead to dehydration and put excessive strain on the cardiovascular system. Lastly, it's essential to be mindful of food quality during the summer months, as bacteria can spread rapidly in prepared foods, causing severe food poisoning. With these risks in mind, it's crucial to take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer.
