Solo Sojourns: A Majority of Russian Women Now Embrace Traveling Alone

A new study reveals a significant shift in how Russian women vacation. According to research from the travel service Aviasales, a striking 71% of women surveyed have now traveled alone. The data, obtained by Lenta.ru, points to a growing independence in leisure travel.
Interest continues to climb, with an additional 13% of respondents expressing a desire to try a solo trip despite not having done so yet. Only 12% stated they have no plans to travel by themselves.
Despite the trend, apprehensions remain. The primary barrier, cited by 26% of women, is concern for personal safety. Nearly as many, 23%, worry about potential loneliness without companions. Other hurdles include fears of handling emergencies (18%), financial constraints (17%), and the language barrier (15%).
Women who have taken the plunge share their strategies for overcoming these doubts. The most common advice, from 46%, is to simply make the decision and go. Others rely on positive past experiences (21%), meticulous planning (19%), or in-depth research about their destination (16%).
The findings build on earlier reports noting a rise in vacations taken 'for oneself,' confirming that solo and all-female friend trips are now a established trend among Russian women.
