Smolensk Region Sees Hotel Bookings Jump 26% in 2025

More travelers are checking into hotels across the Smolensk region. Governor Vasily Anokhin reported that 420,754 people used accommodation services in 2025, a 26% increase from the previous year. The surge aligns with Russia's national “Tourism and Hospitality” project.

Anokhin credited the growth to ongoing efforts to improve the area’s appeal. “We are upgrading public spaces, raising service standards, launching investment projects, and backing local entrepreneurs,” he wrote on his messaging channel.

The region’s tourism sector now supports about 1,300 small and medium-sized businesses. A grant competition helps locals develop projects that showcase Smolensk’s potential. This year, funded initiatives included the “Vyazma Battle of 1812” military reenactment festival, the multimedia exhibit “Smolensk – My Fortress,” and the “Jazz Environment Fest.”

Anokhin sees the rising visitor numbers as a gateway to more federal support. “It opens up new opportunities for infrastructure upgrades, modern tourist facilities, and better services,” he said. “We always welcome guests to Smolensk.”

With more people discovering the region’s history and culture, local officials aim to keep the momentum going by making travel easier and more enjoyable for everyone.
