S7 Airlines Faces Fresh Penalty for Bumping Passengers

S7 Airlines has been fined 45,000 rubles for overbooking flights, a practice that left more than a dozen passengers stranded at the gate. The West Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office announced the penalty this week, marking another regulatory action against the carrier.
The investigation, led by the Novosibirsk transport prosecutor, found that in July, October, and November of last year, 13 passengers were improperly denied boarding on flights from Novosibirsk to cities including Yekaterinburg and Krasnoyarsk. The issue arose when connecting passengers from other flights were registered, exceeding the actual number of seats available on the aircraft.
A court, acting on the prosecutor's initiative, found S7 Airlines guilty of repeatedly violating consumer protection laws governing air travel. The fine was issued under administrative code for providing services that fail to meet legal requirements, a charge that indicates prior offenses.
This penalty underscores ongoing scrutiny of airline operational practices that directly impact traveler rights. For affected passengers, such overbooking results in unexpected delays and disruptions, highlighting a persistent friction point between airline logistics and consumer guarantees.
