Ryanair Eyes Starlink for Future In-Flight Wi-Fi, Despite CEO's Public Spat with Musk

Ryanair’s finance chief has indicated the budget airline would consider using Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service on its aircraft, even as a very public disagreement between the airline’s CEO, Michael O’Leary, and the Tesla founder continues. The suggestion comes as Ryanair announced increased profit and passenger forecasts for the year.
Neil Sorahan, Ryanair’s Chief Financial Officer, stated the airline’s approach to in-flight connectivity would be pragmatic. "We will look at whoever is the best, when the technology and the price is right," Sorahan said. His comments signal that commercial practicality may ultimately override the headline-grabbing feud between the two executives.
The discord erupted earlier this year when O’Leary claimed the very public argument had, ironically, boosted Ryanair’s bookings. Musk responded dismissively on social media. Despite the barbs exchanged, Ryanair’s operational leadership appears to be separating the personal clash from potential business partnerships.
The airline’s strong financial outlook, with rising passenger numbers and profits, provides a backdrop of confidence. Evaluating Starlink reflects a forward-looking strategy to enhance onboard services, a growing expectation among travelers in 2026. For now, the door remains open, suggesting that in the airline industry, competitive technology can sometimes bridge even the most vocal of divides.
