Russia’s Top Four Budget-Friendly Summer Getaways, According to ATOR

Looking for a summer vacation that won’t break the bank? The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) has identified four destinations offering the best value for money this season. Vice President Sergei Romashkin shared the insights with Lenta.ru, highlighting options for every travel style.
For beach lovers, Anapa tops the list. Romashkin noted that the resort has nearly finished cleaning up after last year’s fuel oil spill in the Black Sea. Starting June 1, about 10 kilometers of beaches will be ready for visitors. “Anapa is roughly 10 percent cheaper than Gelendzhik, 20 percent cheaper than Sochi, and 15 percent cheaper than Crimea,” he said. “Right now, it’s the most affordable beach destination in Russia.”
If you prefer sightseeing, consider the Golden Ring route. Romashkin explained that hotels and museums along this historic circuit are significantly cheaper than those in Moscow or St. Petersburg.
For health and medical tourism, he recommended the Moscow region. “If you live in Moscow, it’s cheaper to get treatment near the capital,” Romashkin said. “There are about 70 sanatoriums, and with nearly free travel costs, the average bill is lower than in the Caucasus Mineral Waters region, which requires a flight.”
Adventure seekers should head to Karelia. It’s more affordable than Baikal, Kamchatka, or Altai, offering hiking, rafting, and horseback riding. “Because it’s closer, you save a lot on transportation,” Romashkin added.
ATOR previously advised that Anapa tours won’t get any cheaper—it’s already one of the most budget-friendly options. Romashkin expressed optimism for a strong season there.
