Russians Choose Sun and Snow for Long Weekend Getaways

New data reveals where Russian travelers are heading for the long Defender of the Fatherland holiday weekend. According to ticket sales analyzed by the 'My Agent' company, part of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and China are the top international destinations.

The holiday falls on a Monday in 2026, creating a three-day break. The statistics show a clear preference for warmer climates: 28% of passengers booked flights to Turkey, with 18% choosing the UAE. China, offering a distinct cultural experience, attracted 13% of travelers.

Domestically, Moscow remains the most popular city for the holiday, drawing 27% of domestic travelers. St. Petersburg follows with 16%. Notably, the northern city of Murmansk, a gateway for Arctic tourism and northern lights viewing, broke into the top three for the first time this year, capturing 12% of the market.

The trend for international travel extends beyond this single holiday. Earlier reports indicated that Egyptian and UAE resorts are also leading destinations for other February and March holidays, including Valentine's Day, demonstrating a sustained demand for sun during the off-season.
