Russian Travelers Lean Domestic for May Holidays, But International Trips Get Longer

MOSCOW, April 15 – As Russians prepare for the upcoming May holidays, travel booking data reveals a familiar split in destination preferences. According to the travel service OneTwoTrip, just over a third of holidaymakers—36%—are booking hotels abroad. The remaining 64% plan to vacation within Russia, mirroring the exact distribution seen last year. The figures are based on hotel reservations for May 1-11, 2026, compared to the same period in 2025.
While domestic travel retains its strong appeal, those heading overseas are planning slightly longer getaways. The average international hotel booking now spans 3.3 days, up from 3.1 days in 2025. The average nightly rate for these foreign stays has held steady at approximately 19,400 rubles.
At home, the trend moves in the opposite direction. Trips within Russia are becoming shorter, with the average booking duration dipping to 2.2 days from 2.5 days last year. Travelers are also opting for more economical domestic accommodations, where the average nightly price sits around 10,500 rubles. This suggests a continued, robust interest in exploring the country, albeit through quicker, more budget-conscious trips. The data paints a picture of a travel market where international journeys are a more substantial, if less common, commitment, while domestic tourism thrives on frequency and accessibility.
