Russian Traveler Finds Coastal Living in Asia for a Saratov Price

Travel blogger Ekaterina, who documents her journeys on the Zen platform in 'I'm Katya | I live while traveling,' is challenging perceptions about the cost of a long-term stay in Asia. She argues that for many Russians, Southeast Asia now offers a more compelling value proposition than Europe.

'People imagine Asia as expensive Phuket or posh Bali,' she writes. 'But if you know where to look, you can live by the sea for what it costs to rent a single room in Saratov.'

She points to Vietnam's Nha Trang, which she calls the capital of a 'budget Russian community,' as a prime example. According to her research, clean studio apartments a five-to-ten minute walk from the beach can still be found there in 2026 for 18,000 to 25,000 rubles monthly. Similar affordable rentals exist in Thai destinations like Pattaya and Koh Samui.

Ekaterina highlights another financial perk: the ease of eating out. With local markets selling fresh mango for around 80 rubles a kilo and countless cafes offering large bowls of pho or seafood rice for 200-300 rubles, she finds cooking for yourself often makes little economic sense.

Beyond the budget, she describes an appealing lifestyle. The year-round temperature hovers around 28 degrees Celsius, the general pace is slower, and the atmosphere is noticeably friendly. 'If you're looking for a place to finally exhale, stop counting every penny, and just live in the moment,' she concludes, 'in 2026, Asia beats Europe on every count.'

In a previous post, Ekaterina named Vietnam as a near-perfect country for daily living standards.
