Russian Travel Blogger Laments Luxury of Everyday Items in Mexico

Marina Ershova, a travel blogger exploring Latin America, has shared her experiences of missing everyday Russian products while in Mexico. In a post on the 'Dzen' platform, Ershova confessed that she particularly missed chocolate, which has become a luxury item in Mexico. The price of a standard Milka chocolate bar, around 450 rubles, was too steep for her. Instead of chocolate, Mexicans opt for mango strips in spices, sweets with chili, and sour candies that are so sour they 'make your face contort'. Ershova also longs for honey, which is scarce in local supermarkets, with often only one jar available. She joked that the only question she can ask is whether it's actually honey, rather than discussing the variety of flowers used to make it. Another product she misses is zucchini caviar, a staple in Russia. Despite the abundance of avocados, beans, corn, and other vegetables in Mexico, Ershova found it surprising that no one had thought to create a similar product. Her experiences highlight the differences in food culture between Russia and Mexico, where even everyday items can become a luxury. Ershova has previously shared her observations on other Russian products that are impossible to find in Mexico, such as salted fish and pickled cucumbers, which locals find strange to eat.
