Russian tourists set their sights on Britain as visa rules remain open

Russian travelers are booking trips to the United Kingdom in record numbers this year. According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), demand has jumped anywhere from 10 to 91 percent compared to 2025, depending on the agency and sales channel. The surge marks a clear shift in travel patterns, with Britain emerging as a top European destination for Russians.
Why the sudden interest? Unlike many other Western nations, the UK hasn’t imposed entry bans on Russian visitors. Visa applications are still being processed, no visa centers have been closed, and the minimum tourist visa is valid for six months with multiple entries. ATOR reports that 93 percent of applications from Russian citizens were approved between March 2025 and March 2026. That combination of accessibility and flexibility has made Britain a practical choice for those looking to travel abroad.
London remains the most popular stop, but Edinburgh is gaining traction. Tour operators note a growing interest in combined itineraries across England and Scotland, as well as trips tied to sporting events and cultural festivals. Week-long sightseeing packages to London start at around 55,000 rubles per person—covering a hotel with breakfast and several guided tours, though flights are extra and typically involve transfers through major international hubs.
One Russian family recently made headlines after spending over one million rubles on a five-day stay in a five-star London hotel. For three people, the splurge underscores a broader trend: Russians are not just visiting the UK more often—they’re traveling in style.
