Russian Tourists Report High-Value Theft from Vietnamese Villa

Two Russian tourists have reported a significant theft of valuables from their rented villa in Phan Thiet, Vietnam, placing blame on the cleaning staff. The incident occurred at the NovaWorld resort complex, where the women were paying approximately $750 per month for accommodation.

According to their account, the friends paid an extra $20 for a cleaning service. Upon returning after the cleaners had left, they found the villa still untidy, with personal items moved. A closer inspection revealed missing jewelry, including gold and silver chains, a pendant, a diamond ring, and costume pieces. A mobile phone and a sum of cash were also gone. The estimated total loss is around 160,000 rubles.

The villa's owner reportedly dismissed their complaint, suggesting they should not have left valuables unattended. The cleaning staff denied any wrongdoing. Local police were notified, but the tourists described the law enforcement response as reluctant and slow.

The case highlights security concerns for tourists renting private villas abroad. It follows similar reports from Russian citizens, including a recent claim of stolen money from a hotel in Sri Lanka, pointing to a recurring challenge for travelers in some destinations.
