Russian Tourists Flock to Thailand, Setting New Record Amid Overall Tourism Dip
While Thailand's overall tourism numbers fell short of expectations last year, one market delivered a standout performance. Official figures for 2025 show a record 1.9 million Russian visitors arrived in the kingdom, an increase of 8.8% from the previous year. This surge occurred even as total international arrivals declined by 7% to 33 million, missing the government's target of 35.5 million.
Konstantin Kinel, marketing manager for the Tourism Authority of Thailand in Moscow, confirmed the milestone. "The growth of the Russian tourist flow in 2025 was 8.8%, with a total of 1,899,000 visitors from Russia," he stated. "This is a record number in the entire history of tourism between our two countries."
The broader picture for Thai tourism showed challenges. Revenue from international visitors dropped by 4.7%. The top source markets remained Malaysia, China, and India, but their collective strength was insufficient to offset the wider slowdown. The resilience of Russian travel demand provided a significant bright spot, suggesting shifting patterns in global travel preferences as Thailand continues to adapt its strategy to attract key audiences.
