Russian Tourist Calls Sochi’s Rosa Khutor a ‘Shameful Rip-Off’

A Russian traveler who visited the Rosa Khutor resort in Sochi this July has described the experience as equal parts absurd and infuriating. Posting on the tourism platform Tonkosti Turizma under the handle natalyabetskih, she outlined a series of frustrations that began before she even reached her hotel.
The first blow came when she arrived at the Olympic Village area: no taxis were available, forcing her to piece together a commute by bus, cable car, and on foot. Once there, she was shocked to learn that a shuttle to the beach cost 1,200 rubles per person — a fee applied even to her child. “This year the resort seems determined to squeeze every ruble out of you,” she wrote. “Even photo spots that used to be free now charge you just to snap a picture with your own phone. It feels like you’re being robbed at every turn. Honestly, it’s both funny and shameful.”
Her disappointment extended to the dining options, which she described as “cafeteria-quality food thrown together in a hurry” at prices she called exorbitant. The review echoes a broader sentiment among Russian tourists this season. Last week, another traveler dubbed Sochi’s beaches “absolute hell,” complaining that visitors were “lying practically on top of each other” along the shoreline. For vacationers hoping for a relaxing escape, the message from these firsthand accounts is clear: buyer beware.
