Russian Resort City Airport Halts Operations Amid Safety Concerns

The airport in the Russian resort city of Gelendzhik has temporarily ceased operations as of June 22. According to a statement from Rosaviatsia, the country's aviation authority, restrictions on flight takeoffs and landings were put in place at 09:07 Moscow time to ensure the safety of air travel. This move is part of a broader effort to guarantee secure flight conditions. Similarly, Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport has also introduced temporary restrictions. Meanwhile, Vnukovo and Domodededo airports continue to operate, albeit with adjustments to their schedules as coordinated with relevant authorities. These changes may lead to revisions in flight schedules. The decision comes after a significant incident in which 301 Ukrainian drones were shot down over various regions of Russia between 20:00 on June 21 and 07:00 on June 22. The safety of passengers and air traffic remains the top priority, prompting these precautionary measures to be taken by Russian aviation authorities.
