Russian Railways Gives Green Light to Power Banks on Long-Distance Trains
Passengers traveling on long-distance trains in Russia can breathe a sigh of relief, as Russian Railways has confirmed that there are currently no restrictions on carrying power banks on board. This news comes as a contrast to the rules governing air travel, which have recently become more stringent. As of March 27, 2026, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has introduced new regulations limiting the number of power banks that can be carried by each passenger to two, and prohibiting their placement in overhead baggage compartments and charging during flights. Russian airlines such as Aeroflot, Rossiya, Pobeda, S7, and Smartavia have all adopted these new rules, which were also announced by the Ministry of Transport. In contrast, Russian Railways has stated that passengers are free to carry power banks on long-distance trains without any restrictions, providing a more relaxed travel experience for those journeying by rail.
