Russian lawmaker welcomes resumption of direct flights between Moscow and Damascus

A Russian lawmaker has welcomed the resumption of direct air service between Damascus and Moscow, calling it a positive step for both countries.
Sergey Krivonosov, deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on tourism, said Syrian Airlines will restart flights from Damascus to Moscow on August 16. He said the move could help increase passenger traffic and develop tourism, business and humanitarian ties between Russia and Syria.
Krivonosov noted that regular flights usually contribute to higher passenger numbers, and that mutual tourist exchange may gradually grow as transport accessibility recovers. He described Syria as attractive to Russian travelers because of its rich historical and cultural heritage, unique ancient monuments, religious shrines and significant potential for sightseeing tourism.
The lawmaker added that the development of the route will depend on further stabilisation, security levels and the readiness of tourist infrastructure. He called the launch of direct flights an important first step that could help create a new tourism destination in the Middle East, expand opportunities for citizens and strengthen economic and humanitarian ties between the countries.
