Russian Court Orders Airline to Pay 7 Million Rubles Over Fatal An-24 Crash

A Russian court has ruled that airline 'I8' must pay 7 million rubles in compensation to the relatives of those who died in the crash of an An-24 plane in the Amur region. The plane, which was flying from Blagoveshchensk to Tynda, crashed on July 24, 2025, killing all 48 people on board, including a young family with a one-year-old daughter. The relatives of the victims had sought 2 million rubles for each of their loved ones who died in the tragedy. The court awarded each of the four claimants 1 million rubles for the loss of a child and 750,000 rubles for the loss of a grandchild, totaling 7 million rubles. This decision was made regardless of whether the airline was found to be at fault, as the court recognized the airline's responsibility as the owner of a potentially hazardous operation. The compensation amount took into account the irreparable loss, the age of the claimants, and their emotional suffering, as well as previous payments made by the airline. Prior to this ruling, the airline had already voluntarily paid out 1.5 million rubles to each of the claimants. Additionally, one of the claimants was reimbursed for funeral expenses totaling 512,000 rubles and court costs of 7,000 rubles.
