Russia to Allow Larger Baby Food Containers on Flights by Year’s End

Flying with a baby in Russia is about to get a little easier. Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin confirmed that a new regulation permitting passengers to carry baby food containers larger than 100 milliliters on airplanes will be finalized before the end of 2026. The order has already been approved by the Ministry of Transport and is now undergoing final coordination with relevant agencies, experts, and industry groups.

“We’ve signed off on the order internally. Right now, we’re working through approvals with the proper authorities and stakeholders. The document will be adopted by the end of this year,” Nikitin said in an interview with RIA Novosti ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which runs from June 3 to 6.

Currently, Russian aviation rules limit passengers to liquids in containers of 100 milliliters or less, with a total volume not exceeding one liter. This restriction has applied to baby food and breast milk, though carriers have been allowed to carry “the amount needed for the duration of the flight.” Some airlines already post on their websites that larger baby food containers are permitted, but the new rule would create a uniform, nationwide standard.

The Ministry of Transport first announced plans for this change in March. Once adopted, the measure will bring clarity for families traveling with infants, eliminating the guesswork about what’s allowed at security checkpoints. For now, parents are advised to check with their specific airline, but a more consistent policy is on the horizon.
