Russia Seeks to Extend Ambitious Aviation Development Program

In a significant move, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been asked to extend the country's comprehensive aviation industry development program by five years, until 2035. The original program, approved in June 2022, was set to run until 2030. According to Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov, the extension would provide a much-needed boost to the sector, allowing for the completion of ongoing projects and the implementation of new ones. The program's update is expected to coincide with the certification of Russia's newest civilian aircraft, including the SJ-100, MC-21, and Il-114. Alikhanov revealed that the government plans to attract over 1.5 trillion rubles in leasing financing to support the program's implementation. The final model may undergo changes as it is tailored to specific production capacities and orders. The extension request underscores the government's commitment to developing Russia's aviation industry, which is expected to play a vital role in the country's economic growth and development. With the program's potential extension, Russia is poised to strengthen its position in the global aviation market and increase its competitiveness.
