Russia's Remote Wilds Command Top Ruble for Luxury Travel

For Russia's wealthiest travelers, the ultimate getaways aren't found on foreign shores, but in the nation's most isolated frontiers. According to premium travel agency PrimeTours, the Siberian Putorana Plateau and the volcanic peninsula of Kamchatka now top the list for the country's most expensive domestic vacations.

A week in these remote regions doesn't come cheap. A premium trip to Kamchatka can start at 4 million rubles per person, while a journey to the Putorana Plateau begins around 500,000 rubles. For larger groups, the price tag soars, with some bespoke expeditions involving helicopters and private yachts exceeding 20 million rubles.

The appeal, agents say, lies in the sheer inaccessibility and raw natural beauty of these locations. Destinations like Lake Baikal, Altai, and the Kuril Islands are also drawing high-net-worth individuals seeking wellness retreats, 'power places,' fishing, and hunting expeditions. This shift marks the solidification of a distinct market for luxury travel within Russia's own borders.

Internationally, African safaris remain a perennial favorite for this clientele, with trips to South Africa, Tanzania, and Kenya averaging 1.5 million rubles. Other popular overseas destinations include the Maldives, Seychelles, and Thailand. A significant portion of the cost for these international trips is the flight itself, where business-class tickets for two can reach 2.5 million rubles.

The typical premium client takes five or six trips annually, with some jetting off up to ten times a year. While international excursions average ten days, these luxury trips within Russia are typically shorter, lasting five to seven days—proof that for some, the greatest treasures require neither a passport nor a long stay, just a very deep wallet.
