Russia ready to consider resuming direct flights to Mexico, embassy says

Russia's embassy in Mexico says Moscow is open to looking at proposals for restarting direct air service between the two countries — if Mexico shows interest.
Direct flights between Russia and Mexico have been suspended since February 2022, after Western sanctions and airspace closures took effect. At the moment, travelers from Russia can only reach Mexico with layovers, and the average journey takes more than 20 hours. Foreign airlines operating these connecting routes include Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Emirates.
The embassy's statement follows an Izvestia report, citing Mexican diplomats, that Mexico's embassy has been discussing options for resuming direct flights with Russian officials. The Mexican side noted that organizing such flights would require approvals from the relevant aviation authorities, and that dialogue between the sides is continuing.
