Russia Halts Izhavia’s Flight Operations Over Safety Lapses

Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviation, has suspended the operating certificate of regional carrier Izhavia until July 28, 2026, following a routine inspection that uncovered serious safety violations. The decision, announced on May 1, came after a joint audit by Rosaviation and Rostransnadzor at the airline’s base in Izhevsk Airport from March 31 to April 13.

Inspectors found that Izhavia had allowed an aircraft to fly without completing all required maintenance. The airline’s safety management system was also found to be faulty. “The carrier must now build an effective safety system, fix its maintenance procedures, and ensure aircraft are properly airworthy,” said Rosaviation chief Dmitry Yadrov. “Without these changes, the airline will have to leave the market.”

The suspension is a major blow to Izhavia, which serves routes across the Volga region and beyond. The airline’s management now faces a tight deadline to overhaul its operations or risk losing its license permanently. For now, passengers holding tickets with Izhavia should contact the airline for rebooking or refunds.
