Russia and China Deepen Travel Ties with 270 Weekly Flights and Extended Visa-Free Access

Russian and Chinese airlines now operate 270 direct flights every week between the two countries, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. Speaking at an event marking 25 years of the bilateral friendship treaty, he revealed that roughly two million Russians visited China in 2025, while about one million Chinese travelers came to Russia. The figures reflect a steady upward trend in cross-border tourism.
Those numbers are accelerating. In the first quarter of this year alone, Russian tourist arrivals in China jumped 60% compared to the same period last year, while Chinese visits to Russia rose 25%. The growth comes as both nations keep removing barriers. Chernyshenko confirmed that the visa-free regime for group tours has been extended through the end of 2027, a move designed to encourage even more people to travel.
The goal is ambitious: officials expect six million mutual trips by the time the visa-free policy expires. For context, that would represent a near doubling of the current annual flow. The announcements were made at the launch of the "Good Neighbors" educational project, backed by Russian and Chinese media organizations and historical societies. For travelers planning a trip, the expanded air network and relaxed entry rules make it easier than ever to explore both countries.
