Russia Accuses France of Piracy Over Tanker Detention
The Russian Embassy in Paris has strongly condemned France's detention of the Deliver tanker, labeling it an act of piracy. Diplomats emphasized that the actions of the French Navy are unlawful and unacceptable under international law. This incident is the latest in a series of similar events, with Russia arguing that France's actions are a blatant disregard for maritime regulations. The embassy pointed out that international law does not permit the forced diversion of ships or their escort into port from open sea. The French authorities' claim that the tanker was violating international sanctions is also disputed, as the EU's unilateral restrictions are not recognized by the UN Security Council. The Deliver tanker, flying the flag of Cameroon, was initially headed to Singapore, according to Marine Traffic data. After being detained, it was redirected to a holding area for inspection, with the UK and the EU's naval mission involved in the operation. This is not the first time France has been accused of such actions, with similar incidents involving the tankers Tagor and Deyna in recent months. Russia's stance on these incidents highlights the ongoing tensions between nations regarding maritime law and sanctions enforcement.
