Rome Tops List of Priciest May Getaways for Russian Travelers at 3.4 Million Rubles

A recent report from travel service OneTwoTrip reveals the most expensive foreign vacation taken by Russian tourists in May. Topping the list was a nine-night stay in Rome, Italy, where two travelers spent a total of 3.4 million rubles. The hotel bill included breakfast, making it the costliest trip of the month.

Coming in second was a week-long trip to Almaty, Kazakhstan. That journey set two tourists back 1.3 million rubles, also with breakfast included. Rounding out the top three was New York City. A pair of travelers paid 1.1 million rubles for six nights in a hotel there, though no meals were part of the deal.

Notably, a family of three—two adults and a child—spent 1 million rubles on a Maldives vacation. That package came with two meals a day at the resort.

While these high-end trips grabbed headlines, the broader trend shows Russians increasingly choosing domestic destinations. A previous report noted that by 2026, more travelers are expected to vacation within the country. Turkey remains the most popular international choice, but even it lags behind the Krasnodar region in overall demand.
