Reports of knife-wielding man chasing tourists in Hurghada are false, security source says

RIA NovostiSaturday, October 31, 2026

Claims that a man chased or tried to attack tourists with a knife in Hurghada do not match reality, a source in local security services told RIA Novosti. The man seen in the circulated video is a local beggar who regularly bothers foreigners, behaving improperly toward them in an attempt to get money.

The Telegram channel Shot had reported that the man waved a knife and threw himself under passing cars on a tourist street opposite a four-star hotel. According to the source, the man's actions annoy foreign visitors and generally harm the atmosphere in the tourist district.

Tourist police have warned the man repeatedly about his unacceptable behavior, and an officer tried to drive him out of the tourist zone. The area where the video was filmed is home mainly to hotels and shops and markets popular with tourists.
