Price Tag, Not Desire, Keeps Russians Out of Five-Star Hotels

A survey by the ticket service Kupibilet has found that cost is the main reason Russians avoid five-star hotels, according to research seen by Lenta.ru.

Among those surveyed, 63 percent have stayed in a five-star hotel at least once. Of those, 43 percent do so regularly, while 19 percent have tried it only once. Another 17 percent have never stayed in one but would like to, and 20 percent said the format simply doesn't interest them.

When asked what holds them back, 41 percent pointed to high prices. Another 19 percent said such hotels usually aren't located in the places they travel to, and the same share said they won't pay extra because they spend little time at the hotel. Fourteen percent prefer apartments or flats during their holidays, and 6 percent would rather put their money toward experiences than a costly hotel.

The same service previously found that 22 percent of respondents were dissatisfied with their summer vacation.
